Quote(phrase): “Jews are the enemy! They are the root of all our problems. Without them Germany will be strong!”
“Jews are the enemy!” Why? They are humans as well. So why the hatred? I wonder why Germans thought that Jewish people are bad. What had they done? Germans thought Jewish people were the root of their problems for no reason! They thought that if they got rid of them Germany will be strong. It actually didn’t make a difference if they were there or not. Why was there hatred for Jewish people when Hitler was alive and how come now that Hitler is gone, It’s okay if Jewish people live in Germany? Jewish people were arrested and tortured for no reason and so were people that tried to help them. Everyone in Germany thought Hitler was a good man and was killing Jewish people for a good cause, but it wasn’t, he was just stubborn. Jewish people actually were not enemies to Germany, and were not the root of their problems. It didn’t make a difference weather Jewish people were there or not. Germany actually would have not got strong by getting rid of Jewish people, they would have got more enemies which would have been people who wanted to help Jewish people but couldn’t.

Quote(phrase): “What right did this Jewish have to say anything to me? it’s my room, my wall, and my kitten! these Jews have no rights, don’t they know that!?
“What right did this Jewish have to say anything to me?” It’s true that no one has the right so say anything to other people, but if other people have the right to do certain thing, then why not Jewish people? “It is my room, my wall, and my kitten!” People understand that you’re not supposed to touch other peoples things, but the little girls behind the wall had nothing to do so she started playing with the kitten. “These Jewish people have no rights, don’t they know that?” Why do they not have any rights to do things? I thought while reading this line. How come every German person had the right to do anything? And how come a Jewish person didn’t have the right to do anything for themselves or their family? I really don’t agree with this phrase, it is really cruel. Jewish people are no different than other people!

Quote: “Jews are the enemy! They are the root of all our problems. Without them Germany will be strong!”

What are the Germans thinking, what difference does it make it the Jews were killed or not. The Germans were brainwashed by Hitler, and that was a huge reason why the Jews were kill senselessly. The words “Racial Prejudic” also comes into play here. The Germans thinks that they were taking away the roots of their problems by killing Jews. While the roots to their promblems was Hitler, he whom had used his word to convince Germany that the the Jews were the problem. Germany didn’t do them a favor at all by killing the Jews, it just created another problem that the German soilders had to solve. The problem was other countries diecided that it was unfair and they fought against Germany and they left with success and also left with the Germans scratching their heads wondering what went wrong, and Their anserw should be Hitler.

  5. Emily Grills says:

Quote: “Korinna was glad her mother didn’t spend all her time with the Jews. It was bad enough she cooked and cared for them.”
    Pg. 68

This quote represents the segregation enforced by Hitler and the way a lot of Germans were led to feel hatred and anger towards Jewish people. Not all Germans believed Jewish people weren’t equal, but the ones that did believed their Jewish neighbors were the enemies and they felt like Hitler would lead them to success- to an amazing life. Korinna was one of these believers. When her parents revealed that they were hiding a Jewish family behind her bedroom wall, Korinna felt her parents had become traitors. She hated them for helping the enemies and felt they weren’t faithful to the Fatherland.
I believe Korinna also felt a little jealousy towards the family’s relationship with her mother. Her mother cooked special meals for the family and gave them Korinna’s old clothes. This made Korinna feel that her own mother favored the enemies- the people her Jungmadel groups were teaching her to detest. She felt betrayed, confused and plain angry.
I feel that Korinna had an extremely difficult choice to make. Either stick to her ‘anti-Jew’ beliefs with her friends and Hitler or support her parents decision to protect a Jewish family. Though I don’t agree with what Korinna believed about Jewish people, I still feel that choosing between beliefs and family would be extremely arduous.

BEHIND THE BEDROOM WALL: PG 163
QUOTE: “Suddenly, it dawned on her what could possibly be just as important as love, if not more so. Freedom.”
RESPONSE: This quote directly links back to one of the very first quotes that I did for this book. In that original quote, she was talking about how she thought love was the most important thing in the world. At the time I agreed with her but I had never thought about freedom. I really think that you can’t live a healthy life without love and companionship. I think that you need good fiends and loving family to truly be happy and healthy. However, just like the author talks about about in the afterword, “if you’re not free to love whom you wish, what good is love?” Unfortunately, in a lot of places and a lot of scenarios, people are not free to love and show compassion towards whom ever they wish. Freedom is a right that everyone deserves to have. I hope that one day, everyone will be able to love whoever they want without any fear.

  7. Winta says:

Behind the bedroom wall pg 23:
quote: “I want a strong and rich fatherland just like my camarade. But sometimes i honestly wonder if its worth it.”
Eva said this because she does want Hitler to rule Germany. But she doesn’t want innocent people to die. Even if those innocent people are the Germans worst enemy. I agree with Eva’s quote because I wouldn’t want my country killing innocent people. Even when the person who’s doing all this is someone i worship, obey, and learn about. She wonders if ruling Germany and winning the war is even worth all the trouble of hurting people. She was learned to hate jewish people, even young children that are jewish, but she doesn’t want to.

Quote:”History doesn’t change, only peoples perception of it”
    Response:
In my book the Germans are ordering new history books for the children in school. This doesn’t make sense to me, or main character Korinnas’ mom. The Germans were saying history changes so a change of books are necessary. I completely disagree with this statement because history doesn’t change, only peoples perception of it. You can’t go back in time, therefor you can’t change history. The new history books ordered in we’re only filled with Nazi’s opinions. History can’t be opinionated as they are events that have occurred wether people like them or not. You can’t change history, so I think it’s ridiculous that Germans made opinionated history books.

quote/phrase:”she just hoped she would meet the krugmanns again someday”
it’s good how korinna didn’t betray her parents.she finally felt bad for the jews and are friends now with the little girl.Rita was nice at first but how she backstabbed a friend is kinda unbelievable.I think why Rita was so into the group party because her family is really involved with it,like her brother, he was a police and he’s job was to catch jews and protect his fatherland. unlike korinna’s family.korinna’s family didnt join any groups.Eva helped korinna at the last moment probably because she never really wanted to hate the jews.Eva didnt really want to throw the snowball at the little jewish girl in the beginning of the book either.

  10. Maria Bennett says:

Quote: Pg. 169 (Behind the bedroom wall)
“ After all, if you’re not free to love whom you wish, what good is love?”

This quote is introduced in the story “Behind the bedroom wall” (also during world war 2). This quote is mentioned because in Germany all people who were German could only believe and love Hitler, and if they didn’t they were sent away or killed. If any Germans would try and help Jews, and people found out about it they would also be either sent away or killed. So in this book a girl and her parents move away one night because their lives were extremely unfair, and they’d also became great friends with the Jews they were helping to hide from the other Germans. This was very unfair, so that’s when this quote comes comes in, “ If you’re not free to love whom you wish, what good is love?”
I completely agree with this quote, because there should be no control over whom you love. People should be free to love who they want, and let it be their own decision instead of having to hide how they really feel. What good would love be if one wasn’t allowed to chose? It would feel so pointless and stupid, which love should not feel like. I am incredibly thankful that I have the freedom to love who I want, when I want, where ever I want. This quote inspires me, and makes me want to make a difference in the world by helping the people who are still being brainwashed to love certain human beings, and help them get that freedom of loving whom they wish. This quote I do like because its very intriguing, but its hard to believe that people actually had to live like that. To me this a very heartbreaking, and I’m relieved that our lives are free to make our own decision.

  11. Charlotte Lindahl says:

Quote: Her mother was a traitor. How could she ever love her again, the way she used to.
    Page: 49
This makes me think how hard it must have been to choose between her family or her believes. Knowing her family is doing something she doesn’t believe in at all and she’s totally against she’s probably very upset, mad, and confused. How will she ever decide what to do. I wonder if she’s going to change her mind or do what she wants to do for her believes. She could easily distort her parents life or keep a secret that she’s totally against. She’s not even aloud to talky anyone with this big secret. She has to keep to bundled inside forever. What a hard decision for her. I wonder what way she’s going to go.

  12. Adam Riddell says:

    Title: Behind the Bedroom Wall
    Page: 38
Quote: “Even knowing it was not monsters hiding in the blackness did nothing to calm her heartbeat. Jews were worse.”

This quote gives you an amazing picture on how much the Germans were taught to hate the Jewish people. For a child to think other people were worse than monsters just because of this background is horrible. The main character, Korkina, who is the one thinking Jews are worse than monsters, is completely convinced by everything the teacher, and Fuher say. She is “Completely German,” as they said back then as everything she was saying was biased to Germany and the Nazis. Her head is filled with lies about how once the “Jewish infestation,” is dealt with her fatherland would regain power and there would be no German poverty. In my opinion, Korkina is being very naïve right now as she believes poverty would be solved by exterminating peoples of another culture. I predict that even though she is against the Jews right now, she’ll be a dynamic character and change sides as she gets to know the people behind her bedroom wall. Korkina is in a very difficult position right now as she has got to choice to make. She can either be a traitor and try and save her family and the Jews, or she can turn them all in and continue to be a German loyalist to the so called “Great man,” Hitler.
